Party Time, Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish waiting for you at Corbeteña

November is considered one of the best months of the year for Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta. Water temperatures remain perfect into early January. Since we’re out of the Summer Sun Days, we have warm days and cool evening. So it’s no wonder we’re seeing the return of the vacation Angler back in Puerto Vallarta.

People aren’t the only ones back, we’re seeing the first of the season migration of Whales back in Marina Vallarta. The bay at this time of the year becomes a heaven for all sorts of Sea Life. Part of that sea life is in regards to the Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta’s World famous fishing grounds. Yellowfin Tuna to be exact, which have been less than available this whole season. Now, if you´re in the Corbeteña area or El Banco (the Bank in English) you were picking off Yellowfin from 80 to 175 lbs. mostly, but many were in the 200 lb range. Black Marlin (300 to 500 lbs) are also at these usual locations in ever increasing numbers. Sailfish at this time of the year just take over. Corbeteña is no stranger to Sailfish and very many have been boated in the 100 inch range and anywhere from 75 to 100 lbs. If you are lucky enough to find bait at your chosen location, the Bonito are running really large. Almost too large for Tuna Tubes. The theory that big bait brings big fish is a popular one and I think I’ll go with that one today! Surface trolling and Kites for the Yellowfin are the working processes for the moment. Right not would be a good time to head out for Yellowfin Monsters as long as your expectations aren’t set a little high. You´ll come back with fish from these two hot spots, so what’s stopping you?

Marietta Islands are still and always are a great value for your fishing dollar. Just 28 miles out from Marina Vallarta are the Marietta Islands. These islands are Game Reserves and are protected. So you can´t just get too close unless you have a permit. But the fishing off the rocks is wonderful and will always produce amazing strong gamefish. Jack Crevalls, Bonito, Sailfish (90 lbs), Dorado (20-35 lbs), Rooster Fish and many others call this area home year round. This week we continue to see a wide variety of these fish here as is normal.

Inside the bay this week we’re seeing some welcome, but strange catches. Just the other day I had a couple head out in the bay for four hours and came in with a large Sailfish. So the way conditions are, anything is possible, just about anywhere right now. Large Bonito are all over the south end of the bay, with Roballo, Needle fish, smaller Dorado and Jack Crevalls as well. Makes a four hour trip well worth the effort….

Punta Mita and around the corner to Sayulita are always productive, but with the extra distance from Marina Vallarta, why make the trek. But those out of the la Cruz Marina are heading closer in with the Sails and Dorado on the islands and off the point being easy pickings for the time being.

I have included an extra picture this week of the 54th Annual Pez Vela Tournament that ended last week. The Tournament is always a local ´Happening¨ and is always fun to participate in. Watch for my program on www.PVYAFCA (dot) com and check it out!
Well, that’s enough for this week, until next time, don’t forget to kiss your fish….

They even say they´re me on the phone, so don´t be fooled by imposters!
