I don´t care if you call it Deep Sea Fishing, Big Game Fishing or Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta, the game is on amigos. This past week we´ve finally seen the Black Marlin moving back into the area. Like I´ve been talking about for the last couple of weeks, they usually come in about this time of the year. Now they´re not huge, running 300 to 500 lbs on average. But they´re still large fish and they´re thick at Corbeteña and El Banco. Live Bait is king and it can be scarce at the fishing grounds so make sure you load up as soon as possible and don´t wait and hope you can make bait once you´re there. Don´t make that mistake amigos….

It looks like we´ve made the turn into summer with water temperatures climbing to the 84 degree mark which is like heaven for Yellowfin Tuna and Black Marlin. Speaking of Yellowfin Tuna, at El Banco the Yellowfin this week were running in the 60 lb range and were plentiful. Just a few weeks ago 10 miles out past El Banco the Yellowfin were in the 200 lb range, but that´s how it goes. We´re right on time with this size tuna and they´ll be increasing in size shortly, so be patient. Mahi Mahi have been large out there as well with may being brought in the last week in the 45 lb range.

Corbeteña is picking up as well. With the Snappers, Amberjacks and Rainbow runners for bottom fishing. Then with Black Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish and occasional Wahoo, Corbeteña is in my opinion the most flexible fishing grounds we have in PV. Blue water, Sunny days and calm seas make this time of the year perfect for the vacationing angler looking for a world class ¨finned fantasy¨ to become a reality.

At the point of Punta Mita north the fishing has been automatic. Rooster fish are still large and in charge near the inward reefs. Mahi Mahi are running in broad size ranges here, they can be anywhere from 10 pounds to 30 lbs. Sailfish have been lounging on the surface like they do..

This week inside the bay the smaller Mahi Mahi have started to invade the usual locations. Master Baiter´s clients hooked into 40 small to large Mahi in the bay just the other day. Bonito, Mackerals, Snappers, Jack Crevalls and more make the bay worth fishing again. Take advantage of our additional hour tacked on to your basic trip and extend that day for free. It’s a good way to stretch your fishing dollar.

I did a radio interview with Snag from Hoofish radio in San Diego http://www.fishfaceradio.com/studiocam.html the other day and I have to say I like the show. Informative and fun his show is on Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. Puerto Vallarta time (10:00 a.m. in Southern California). They were interested in the normal stuff about fishing, but they also wanted to clear up any fears people may have about influenza and Mexico. Hopefully there were some freshly informed people that will now be mentally able to visit Puerto Vallarta. It still amazes me how some of the best fishing grounds in the world can still be so mysterious even after all the fishing articles PV has written about it each year!

For those interested in going fishing, Master Baiter’s is giving everyone who charters our company guaranteed boats at this time (company boats only in Marina Vallarta) a free hour fishing with every charter (except 12 hr charters). We are also throwing in a free T-shirt to who ever catches the biggest fish! That’s about a $125.00 usd value. Take advantage of this limited time offer.

That’s about it for now, until next week, don’t forget to kiss your fish!
